When Walter Riggs became the head coach of Clemson football in 1896, he brought with him a nickname for the team. As an admirer of the Princeton Tigers, he wanted Clemson’s team to share the nickname. Coincidentally, prior to coaching Clemson, he played at Auburn, but their nickname (also the Tigers) wasn’t directly inspired by Princeton. Brought to you in partnership with College Vault. Products are mocked up on a size S. Graphics may appear smaller on larger sizes.
